Why You Need An Architect

Creating a residential, commercial or industrial building is not an easy task to manage on your own. Hiring a professional to offer vision, manage planning details, and take overall responsibility is key to completing a successful project.

The Architect’s Role

Consulting architects are possibility thinkers and detail-oriented creators—all at once. They consider every aspect of a project’s entire scope and understand how to put these components together to create outstanding spaces where people can be inspired.

Pitching Green

  • One of our most important initiatives…Pitching Green.
  • It’s CAA’s commitment to the environment…to “green architecture” in Alberta

What is a Consulting Architect?

Architects serve as trusted advisors. Their role is holistic, blending diverse requirements and disciplines in a creative process, while serving the public interest and addressing health and safety matters.

Wood Works! Annual Wood Design Awards

Eight awards were given out February 12th at the annual Wood Works! gala. Out of 34 nominations, 16 member and sponsor names appeared in the illustrious group of candidates waiting to find out the winners. CAA member Sturgess Architecture took home the Jury’s Choice Award for the Montreal House project. RJC Engineers and PCL Construction, both CAA sponsors, were honoured with the Institutional Wood Design Award for Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge, Calgary Alberta with GEC Architecture. You can view all the winning projects here.

Second annual Business Awards winners announced

All three jurors singled out two entries, judging them in almost the same order. Thus a tie has been declared this year.

One firm engaged the whole office in a project, not just the design team building the power of expanding design, energy and awareness into the community beyond their own walls.Their project and the business of it affected the whole city.

The other firm applied a business efficiency philosophy idea from manufacturing into everyday architectural practice. Lean thinking theory is innovative and, in one judge’s experience, quite challenging to apply in an authentic way. The jurors applauded the way that  the firm tried to rethink one of the most essential business practices in architecture through the lens of Lean Thinking.

And the winners are:
